Assignments

All assignments must be completed in order to receive a “Pass” for the class. Exceptions are made only in the most extreme of circumstances.

Homework 5 // Assigned Sept 19 // Due Sept 26

  1. Have fun grading quizzes. Remember, grade in a color other than red. 8-)

Homework 4 // Assigned Sept 12 // Due Sept 19

  1. Pick a different active learning technique or group-learning activity and implement it in your section next week. Be sure to answer the questions for this week's teaching log before the next class. Also, bring your teaching logs to class for the discussion.

Homework 3 // Assigned Aug 29 // Due Sept 12 (two weeks)

  1. Review writing effective lesson plans and draft a lesson plan using the 12-steps. Bring a copy to the next class.
  2. Write two example quiz questions. One should involve calculations and one should involve writing/explanation. Have each question be worth 10 points, and also create a grading rubric for each question.
  3. We spent time talking about active learning and group work in Ay300. Pick one of the various techniques or group-learning activities and implement it in your next section. Be sure to answer the questions for this week's teaching log before the next class. Also, bring your teaching log with you to class. They will be checked (and the questions discussed).

Homework 2 // Assigned Aug 24 // Due Aug 29

Loads of small tasks:

  1. Continue editing your syllabus and lesson plan. E-mail it to Therese or myself you want further comments (optional).
  2. Complete the required online Ethics course before Monday.
  3. Make an account on badGrads so you can access the EBRB. You must make an account on a computer connected to the astro server. If you are not an HFA native, ask Therese and I for assistance.
  4. For those teaching on Monday: Have a great first section!
  5. For the volunteer (Isaac): Try to make some notes on your section for the section recap section on Monday. Use the teaching log prompt questions as a guide.

Homework 1 // Assigned Aug 23 // Due Aug 24

  1. Review the materials on syllabus writing and first day lesson plans (accessible from the main Ay300 webpage) and write a draft of your syllabus and lesson plan. Your lesson plan should include introductions, an ice breaker, an engaging activity, and time for assessment and feedback.
  2. Bring a copy of both your syllabus and lesson with you to the second bootcamp day.
