  1. Why is it important to communicate science to the public?
  2. Who are scientists/speakers that inspire you (both personal examples and public figures)?

(15 min) “Grad Slam” intro and sample videos

(10 min) Work on your own “2-minute thesis” talks. They can be about your previous/current research, or about what it means to study astronomy and why it's important. We will present these next week!

Homework

  1. Edit your teaching statement and bring in one copy of your final version next week.
  2. Practice your “2-minute thesis” talk and be prepared to present it next week.
