Assignments

All assignments must be completed in order to receive a “Pass” for the class. Exceptions are made only in the most extreme of circumstances. All homework is due the following week, unless explicitly stated otherwise!

Bootcamp Day 1 HW (assigned 8/20):

  1. Draft a syllabus for your section. Bring two copies with you to class tomorrow.
  2. Draft a lesson plan for your first-day. Think about introductory materials/statements, icebreakers, activities, assessments, and the time each activity takes. What atmosphere do you want to create? What are your learning objectives? How will you assess whether these objectives were accomplished? Bring two copies with you to class tomorrow.
  3. Prepare answers to the following board-work questions. We will be calling each person up to the board to answer one of them during class tomorrow.

Bootcamp Day 2 HW (assigned 8/21):

  1. Keep a lesson plan notebook throughout the semester. You should be writing out your lesson plan prior to section each week, including specific learning objectives and time estimations. After you teach, jot down some notes/reflections on your lesson plan of what worked well and what didn't - these are useful to have if you teach the same class again in the future!
  2. Read this article.
  3. Have great first sections!

Class 3 HW (assigned 8/29):

  1. Glance over everyone's teaching times on the main page of the Wiki and see who you might want to pair up with for section visits. Everyone teaching this semester must be visited at least once. Everyone must go on at least one visit.
  2. Keep creating, logging, and reflecting on those lesson plans! Write at least one learning objective on your lesson plan each week.
  3. Read this article.

Class 4 HW (assigned 9/5):

  1. Peer visits are assigned. Meet up for discussion with both the person who visited you and the person you visited by 9/19. Bring a completed Peer Visitation Worksheet to class on 9/19.
  2. Draft a full length quiz (20 minutes in length, 50 total points) for the class you are teaching. Bring TWO copies to class next week.

Class 5 HW (assigned 9/12):

  1. If you haven't done so already: peer visits. Meet up for discussion with both the person who visited you and the person you visited by 9/19. Bring a completed Peer Visitation Worksheet to class on 9/19.
  2. Draft a detailed grading rubric to go along with your quiz. Bring ONE copy to class next week.

Class 6 HW (assigned 9/19):

  1. None! Good luck grading quizzes this week for C10 :)

Class 7 HW (assigned 9/26):

  1. You will be video-taped in section by a 375 instructor sometime during the week of 10/1. After receiving a copy of your video, watch it and complete the Section Video Recap Worksheet. Bring it to class on 10/17.

Class 8 HW (assigned 10/3):

  1. Write a midsemester evaluation and administer them in your section next week (10/8-10/12). After reviewing your students' responses, write up a summary of the evaluation (What did you learn? What changes might you make?). You might consider graphing quantitative responses for your 'analysis'. Bring this summary and a copy of your (blank) evaluation to class on 10/17.
  2. You will be video-taped in section by a 375 instructor sometime during this week. After receiving a copy of your video, watch it and complete the Section Video Recap Worksheet. Bring it to class on 10/17.
  3. Bring your lesson plan notebook to class next week.

Class 9 HW (assigned 10/10):

  1. If you haven't done so already, write and administer a midsemester evaluation in your section this week. After reviewing your students' responses, write up a summary of the evaluation (What did you learn? What changes might you make?).   1. Draft a one-page, single-spaced statement of teaching philosophy. Bring a copy to class next week.

Class 13 HW (assigned 11/7):

  1. Edit your teaching statement and bring in one copy of your final version next week.

Class 14 HW (assigned 11/14):

  1. None! Have a great rest of the semester!
