This is an old revision of the document!

Please clean up after yourself in the remote observing area (i.e. the basement of Campbell Hall, Room 11).

Also, there is to be absolutely NO COOKING OR COFFEE MAKING in the remote observing area.

To get your Cal ID card coded for the entrance to Room 11, you must bring you Cal ID to the Keys, Space, and Heath & Safety person (currently Robert Magtibay, 601-C Campbell Hall).

Keck

The official department page about this stuff is here and the official Keck Mainland Observing page is here.

The basement of Evans has a remote observing room with two stations. You need keycard access (email Rayna + your advisor) to enter. Each station is equipped with several monitors and a polycom for talking to the telescope operator on the summit. The observing room is equipped with a couch and microwave for your convenience. Bathrooms are by the elevators; remember your keycard so you can get back into the observing room!

Lick

If no one is using the Keck Remote Observing setup (mentioned above) for Keck observations, then you can schedule to use that setup for the Lick 3m Shane telescope (although this is still in beta testing as of Summer 2008). There is also a three-headed setup for the Lick 1m Nickel telescope.

Here is the Lick Observatory Remote Observing homepage. It has the Observing Policy and Instructions for remote observing on both the 3m and the 1m at Lick.
