Communicating Science to the Public (45 min)
(5 min) Individually, answer the following:
- Why is it important to communicate science to the public?
- Who are scientists/speakers that inspire you (both personal examples and public figures)?

(5 min) With a partner, come up with a list of traits of a good public talk.
(5 min) Class discussion
(15 min) “Grad Slam” intro and sample videos
(10 min) Work on your own “2-minute thesis” talks. They can be about your previous/current research, or about what it means to study astronomy and why it's important. We will present these next week!
Homework
- Edit your teaching statement and bring in one copy of your final version next week.
- Practice your “2-minute thesis” talk and be prepared to present it next week.
