Launch Day 2009

Planning information for the 2009 Launch Day, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 20.

Here is the course enrollment guide for 2009

• 12:00-1:00 Q&A with faculty and students. Suggested topics are the advising system, courses, and general responsibilities of a first year
• 1:00-2:15 Lunch at the Faculty Club
• 2:30-3:30 Fun Stuff to do in Berkeley with grad students and postdocs
• 3:30-5:00 Jobs meeting
• Afterwards: Dinner and drinks at Jupiter or elsewhere

• Invite faculty for the Q&A
• Invite a limited number of grads for the faculty club lunch (funds are limited)

This year, only one first year will be arriving in August. Two will be here already, and the last won't be in town until the semester has already started. Plus, two of our mentors will be out of town for orientation, and the chair is unavailable. Finally, one of the students is a visiting student (and therefore doesn't care about residency, health insurance, etc). In light of all this, it might be a good idea to shorten the orientation to the afternoon only, and avoid altogether some of the topics we usually address.
